Attendance Area Review - information for families Area Review - information for families<p>​​Following are the contents of a letter being distributed to all families at Alliston Union, Cookstown Central and Ernest Cumberland schools regarding the upcoming attendance area review.​</p><p><br></p><p>This letter is to inform you that the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) is undertaking an attendance area review including Alliston Union Public School, Cookstown Central Public School, Ernest Cumberland Elementary School and the new east Alliston elementary school. The purpose of the review is to:</p><ul><li>establish a new attendance area for the new east Alliston elementary school<br></li><li>address accommodation pressures at area schools<br></li><li>determine the location of the French as a Second Language (FSL) program for the area <br></li><li>examine the viability of continuing to run a modified school year calendar<br></li></ul><p>A public meeting has been scheduled to present potential scenarios and get feedback from the community.</p><p>​Date: November 10, 2016<br>Time: 6 p.m.<br>Location: Banting Memorial High School, 203 Victoria St. E, Alliston</p><p>A second meeting will be held to share the recommendation(s) that SCDSB staff will take to the Board of Trustees for approval.</p><p>​Date: January 17, 2017 (inclement weather date January 24)<br>Time: 6 p.m.<br>Location: Banting Memorial High School, 203 Victoria St. E, Alliston</p><p>You are most welcome to attend these meetings to learn more and share your thoughts with the team. CCPS Activity Bags Activity Bags<p>Get the whole family active this spring with some great games.</p><p>CCPS has fun bags with activities that can be signed out on a weekly basis.</p><p>Bags can be signed out on Friday’s and must be returned by the following Thursday. Meet the Teacher night - Thursday, October 6th. the Teacher night - Thursday, October 6th. <p class="MsoNormal"><span class="ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-2" lang="EN-CA">Here is the schedule for the evening:</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:1.5in;text-indent:-1.5in;"><span class="ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-2" lang="EN-CA">4:45 – 5:30pm       Pre-ordered pizza can be picked up on the back tarmac from your child’s teacher.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:1.5in;text-indent:-1.5in;"><span class="ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-2" lang="EN-CA">5:00 – 6:00pm       STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Math) demonstration in the gymnasium.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-2" lang="EN-CA">6:00 – 7:00pm       Classes will be open to Meet the Teachers</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-2" lang="EN-CA">Also of note, sign-up sheets will be posted all evening for families to sign-up for the upcoming student-led conferences scheduled for the week of November 14<sup>th</sup> – 18<sup>th</sup>.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-2" lang="EN-CA">As well, we will have On-Site Printers here for the evening selling school spirit wear.  Students will be able to design their own clothing and it will be created on the spot for them to take home with them and enjoy.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-2" lang="EN-CA">Pizza for the evening can be purchased via School Cash On-line until this Sunday, October, 2<sup>nd</sup>.  We are only selling whole pizzas and the cost of a pizza is $10.00.  When you are purchasing the pizza on-line, please only select one child’s teacher’s name and that is the teacher that you will be able to collect the pizza from the night of the event.  Our school council members will also have water available for families to enjoy and they will have a booth set up to share more information about our school council and how you can get involved.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-2" lang="EN-CA">We are looking forward to seeing everyone October 6<sup>th</sup></span></p>

Please support our school by making a donation or by joining us. If you wish to join us for the walk, please be sure to come to the school before 2:00pm this Thursday, September 29th, so that you can sign in at the office and receive your visitor's badge. Your kindness will impact the lives of so many people living with cancer. Volunteers needed! needed! <p>​We could really use your help this year. If you are able to generously donate any of your time to <a href="/parents/volunteer">volunteer</a>, please contact the school office at 705-458-4461 at your earliest convenience. <br></p><p>We are hoping to have volunteers join us for reading with students in the primary classes and helping teachers in some classrooms. Our library can benefit from volunteer assistance too!</p><p>We need help with our Pizza Program, Safe Arrival, our Healthy Snack Program and of course field trips and sports.</p><p>Remember, too, the Cookstown Central P.S. <a href="/parents/school-council">School Council</a> is looking for your support.</p><p>All volunteers need to have current police checks and vulnerable sector checks. Once you have completed a police check you must sign a Declaration every fall in order to remain on our list of approved volunteers.</p><p>We hope you will consider joining our dynamic team.</p>
